Miraculously Lost in Music

Phew! Last week was rough.

So, I forgot to write something in time today. My bad! I was writing a defense for my Masters and briefly stopped to write about what God is doing.

First off, thank you all for reading my posts. A special thanks to Maurice for sending encouraging words and prayers. God bless you. I just figured if I am ever given a chance to tell my story, I would need to be deeply vulnerable. So, “Why not start here?” Isn’t that what a blog is for anyway?

Anywho!

Last weekend, I found solace keeping it real with big brother J.C (Jesus). As it says in Hebrews 10:22, “Draw near to God with a sincere heart and with full assurance that faith brings.” I did and this past weekend, I found comfort and peace. But, that’s not the surprise I want to tell you about.

I feel like Groot right now

See, while I was vacationing on the wild side of Catalina Islands, I discerned the Holy Spirit leading me to write a short book for diplomats, leaders, visionaries…in Africa. Of course, I questioned my ability to do that. But, I wrote down the idea.

Since, I returned, in the midst of the pressures and trials, somehow, I finished it in three weeks. I realized that even though I didn’t know much, the more I wrote down or typed what came to me, the more the words came forth. It was beautiful.

Then, I started drawing and came up with illustrations for theories that just blew my mind. I was in awe of what God can do when you just let go and let God. When you just swiftly and completely obey.

But, this is not the surprise.

During the weekend, I was just thanking God in the midst of the tasty challenges comprising of disappointments, loss, betrayal, and criticism…when I got a phone call. It was from Mike, a former Hollywood actor, entrepreneur, cyber security buff..whom a friend had recommended me to months ago.

Apparently, Mike had been working on a project and while praying discerned the Spirit leading him to call me and discuss ideas, find out what I was doing etc. When he first reached out, I was at a loss. I didn’t know who in the world he was. He had to remind me.

Anyway – we talked and he told me about things he was doing in Africa and how he was working with this CEO from Africa and how they agreed they need ideas, a framework etc. to help diplomats engage communities, entrepreneurs etc.

Well! How about that?

I just cracked up and explained that all the questions he just asked was what I just wrote about. I told him of the sense of urgency from the Holy Spirit to do it. I’m glad I obeyed. Then I told him of some other stuff and it just blew his mind.

He’d just been reading the scripture which I used to create these frameworks for gold medal peak performance for business and leadership. Halo! And what did I have to do with it? Absolutely, “rien du tout” (nothing at all). God is good, ain’t he?

Wait! There is more.

People of stature – Marine Captain, Innovation Strategist, Ambassador, City Inspector… – are accepting my request to review it. How is this happening? Man, God is good. Oh…and there is this Pastor whom I met who is reading it to. He was so kind to me. Our meeting was a kind of divine appointment. Unplanned people, unplanned!

Wow! This is bigger than I expected. God is good. Consider keeping me in your prayers.

I write to encourage you and me to keep being faithful, pressing on, and never –

“Become weary of doing good for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” – Galatians 6:9

That said, you need to hear this Old school jam remixed by Dmitri from Paris. Listen! Its got your boy #Motown here sliding to the goodness of God and looking up, trusting His process, and looking ahead with faith.

God throwing this surprise at me as well as me finding this jam is no coincidence. I  think its God inspiring me to become miraculously lost in the music of His unconventional ways and in the music that is life.

Enjoy folks! Y’all have a marvelous week.

Butterfly v. Creative Negativity

~ Iron sharpens iron  ~

This has been on my mind for a while. I have been working with someone whose pessimism about life is breath-taking. My goodness! For instance, he says things like –

You can’t get a good job because you are black.

This is what is wrong with this country…

This generation is lazy, good for nothings…

Robots are going to take all the jobs and make people unemployed…

Basically, everything is going down…

Its like he always finds a reason to make depression a reality. Yep. He’s from “that” generation alright. Or maybe its just the age. And though I love and appreciate him, his thoughts might be rubbing off on me. And when he told me he watches the news all the time, I was like –

…makes sense…

Recently, after sharing his heart about how hopeless the future would be, I challenged his views. I told him –

There are people out there who will transform this world. Young people who will inspire hope, engage in societal reformation, embody transformation…and more. Don’t be surprised to see a sudden breakthrough of young folks inspired by the Divine doing great things next year. I am confident of it.

Though he insisted that this was not possible, I added,

I disagree sir, but there is. You don’t see them because there are not where you’ll typically look. And there a lot of young adults who are already making that change. I am fortunate to know and be connected with some of them. You might not see them because they are a remnant…waiting for the appointed time. A tree is first a seed and when it is a seed, you can’t see it.

That’s why God hides this type of people until it is time for them to emerge. You will see them in 2018. You will have reason to hope. You can either retire to some remote place as you plan and watch the change happen or you can keep at your craft while watching and participating in the change. I guess its up to you.

Personally, I was thinking I wouldn’t want “you” around me with this barrage of creative negativity.

Though I may have been affected by this barrage of hopelessness recently, I am constantly encouraged by the work of friends and family who are breaking ground. Folks like this proof that there is hope and a remnant in our generation bringing the transforming power of His presence into the streets and marketplace.

Meet Ria Githuku (link to instagram)

img_1514

Our meeting was a supernatural one. It was – destiny. I stepped out of a church service to get something and saw two people loving, comforting, and praying for someone. One of them was wearing a prayer shawl. I ignored it. A few secs later, I discerned that sweet still small voice say – “Go over there and pray with them.” And – go – I did.

Turns out, the guy was Eli – remember him? And the classy lady with the prayer shawl was Ria Githuku, one of the most talented female singers I have ever met. She’s an actor too. Pure artistic genuis. We have become friends.

Listen to her new single below.

Like many of you, this beautiful mademoiselle has gone through rock and hard places. She has been tested by fire, her faith tested like gold…you know, and every other unforeseen circumstance that is attracted to people of faith. You know, the usual.

But, she remains faithful and her song is her testimony.

If iron sharpens iron, then I am glad she and the Shabbat family sharpens me. Ria together with many of you are part of the change heaven is releasing on the earth. You are God’s gifts, God’s surprise, for this age of hopelessness and depression. Keep on keeping on.

I asked Ria to share some wisdom and encouragement. With love, she sends her thoughts and regards to you and your family. In her own words –

When my dream became being in the center of God’s will, following my dreams always led me into the center of His heart, where there is no rejection, no disappointment, no striving, no inadequacy – just Love and trust in the fact that I will be led into the absolute best destiny for my life! There is complete freedom in following Jesus because He has bigger dreams and higher hopes for us than we could ever have for ourselves!!

I have found who I really am in Him, my purpose, what I was born for, or at least I have started to unearth it. I am a worshiper of the living God and a deep lover of His people. With my song, my words, my communion with Him, and my heart of compassion for people, worship flows from me like living water. This is what we are all called to although it will look different for each of us.

FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS – SEEK HIS FACE, AND YOU WILL LITERALLY HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WILL EVER NEED, AND MORE!!! ❤❤❤

Well –

There you have it. Seek his face. In short – Seek first the Lord and his kingdom and all other things will be added unto you. Don’t give up guys. Press in.

Life is hard. Holding onto the promises of God and doing life is harder still.

That’s because every “promise” of God to you must be tested. Every single one! But run the race. Keep the faith. And ask God for folks like Ria who like iron will sharpen you with hope. You are blessed and highly favored.

Thank you Ria for your wisdom and for the gift of friendship and divinely inspired music that drives away hopeless thoughts with love. And now, I raise my glass to you Ria; to friends and family everywhere who are boldly traversing the valley of the shadow of death in pain and in peace –

Cheers!

One Love, One Spirit

PS: Butterfly represents being transformed by the renewing of their minds to do what HE calls them to do. Creative Negativity is the metamorphosis of the negativity (doubt, pain, persecution etc) we have to overcome to become who we really are and do what we are born to do.

THE ONLY WAY TO LIVE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Happy Holidays Happy People,

Christmas is upon us. And I am really excited – for no particular reason. Okay, I expect some good surprises. You know – gifts, family, friends, food, drinks…the usual. And maybe I’ll be lucky enough to kiss a girl under the mistletoe…(Hey, I believe in miracles okay).

Yes! I believe.

img_1308

B…u…t, my point is – I am excited and fell awkward at the same time. No shame, no gain!

To begin the season (The entire December), here is a christmas carol – Silent Night – sung in the ? – Language. That’s right. There is a language called “?”.

Think I’m kidding? Well, check out this funky fellow sing Silent Night in “?.”  This is the BEST SILENT NIGHT I have listened to – EVER!!! Be sure to share it with family and friends. It makes the atmosphere a little – merrier – yes? Its my own way of sharing the merriness.

A….ny….way!

I have a brief thought to share today.

I heard someone say that a bottle of beer after a days work is a therapeutic. Well, instead of that, you did you one good.

I brought Elvis “back to life” in my little chateau and asked him to set a jazzy mood to relieve you of stress while you read my brief thought.

[Elvis – just for you! Listen and read on]

Folks!

Its the 21st century. The world is already a risky place. You could get pranked by someone who straps a fake bomb on a dog and makes the dog chase you. Your dog could be drugged and stolen in the middle of the night for no reason (Snoopy, my mom’s dog got nicked last week. No joke).

People are going cray-cray out there. (I think they need Jesus!)

Sans the shootings and bombings, there are many uncontrollable variables out there that can make our lives, our dreams, and the fulfillment of our destiny a living hell. But, locking our truest identities in “internal prisons” and marooning ourselves in our “safe spaces” won’t do us any good either.

It is the 21st century alright. The world is already a risky place.

The only way to learn, live, grow, and succeed nowadays is to learn the language of the age. And the first rule to living in a risky world is this – Take risks. This season, do something a tart different for a change. Practice the new language of the age.

For instance –

Dance freely. Salsa with the breeze. Give freely even if you don’t feel the utopia. Travel freely on the byways and highways.  Love relentlessly. Forgive quickly. Reconcile immediately. You’ve got imagination – employ it. Each moment is a treasure – enjoy it.

Voila!

Success – whatever that means to you – is the destination. Lifelong learning is the journey. Risk is the vehicle.

That’s why –

img_1309

I am going to kiss a sweet and fancy mademoiselle under the mistletoe (Oui). If you are a fine dame reading this, assume I will claim plausible deniability for writing this post if it turns out to be you (Hahaha).

Seriously though!

Take risks…! As my friend, Louis would say –

Life is too short to be boring.

And as you practice taking risks this season, think of this song by K.T Tunsall. It’ll help you have fun while as you play “real life do or dare.” It will make your bloopers and awkward moments seem a little cheek.

So let me remind you –

Life is not full of surprises – YOU ARE.

So, take risks!

I hope you enjoyed my attempt at making you laugh. If not, I’ll do better next time. But, I hope you enjoyed the songs and the brief thought. Thank you for reading my posts. Your likes, comments, and encouragement mean a lot to me. Thanks again. I love you guys.
