PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT

And…..I am almost died!

Seriously! I almost died!!!

First, literally! Then, out of embarrassment. And then, I wished I had really died. Strong thing to say, ain’t it? Well, here’s the story.

I HATE HEIGHTS! I DO!

But, I desperately wanted to join the swim team. I had done gymnastics. So, I decided to combine gymnastics and the spring board. Yep – diving!

What in the world was I thinking!?

I did all the swim team traditions, became part of the team, and boasted of my new un-tested skill. After all, coach was the one who invited me to combine my skills and break records. Yeah – right!

Then, one Sunday, for a team bonding experience, we went to a water park. Folks were sliding here and there having fun on the deep end. I stayed at the shallow end.

Why?

I just happened to remember – I AM SCARED OF HEIGHTS.

But then the cool kids on the swim team started showing off their skills on the diving board. And it was my turn. But, I stayed on the shallow side of the pool and acted like cool catz do.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t tough enough to escape the cheering and hollering of my nickname which had been so carefully crafted for a man supposedly as skilled as I was.

I couldn’t escape it anymore when they called out that name – ISH’ THE FISH.

That’s right – Ish’ the fish…Ish’ the fish…Ish’ the fish…

Soooo…., I walked up to the diving board, got on the board, and began to tremble. Against my better judgement, I wore my swim goggles. Then everyone became quiet. I couldn’t turn back from the edge of the board now.

It now became – NO RETREAT! NO SURRENDER!

So, I approached the board, jumped the wrong way, on one foot, and did a front flip which was the lousiest front flip in human history and landed head first in the water.

That wasn’t the embarrassing part. The next part is. Continue reading “PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT”

SOMEONE HAS TO!

In the Circle of Vision which I wrote before this, I established that where there is no platform for a type of dream or vision, one has to be built.

A personal dream or vision will be difficult to actualize or fully realize without any national visionary platform to support those dreams and visions. And where there isn’t one – if there is no national visionary platform for freedom, a specific dream, or genre of skill, then the dreams and visions of the people perish.

And –

If there is no platform, then one would need to be built.

Someone or some people will have to put their own dreams and visions aside to pursue the vision of building a platform for a people’s collective and individual visions to stand on.

Someone! Anyone – has to pay the price to build it.

Once that happens, then that volunteer can return to dreaming and journeying to establish personal visions in whatever field they chose or began.

In this post, I share one of my favorite examples. It involves soccer. More than that – women’s soccer. I was raised by women, cared for by women and supported by women. Plus, my brother played professional soccer in Europe.

So yes! I am passionate about soccer and Women’s Soccer for that matter.

It brings out the NINJA in me. Continue reading “SOMEONE HAS TO!”

THE FUNNY THING ABOUT HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

I was embarrassed to share the featured picture for this post with you. It felt awkward.

I mean, what is a man in a suit doing carrying around and riding “half” a bicycle?

But, that’s the thing about humble beginnings-

They quite simply are – HUMBLE! Continue reading “THE FUNNY THING ABOUT HUMBLE BEGINNINGS”

THE BIRTH OF BELIEF

People with perseverance have gone on to achieve what those with genius have not. Repetition is what routinizes faith in action, turning it into a consistent, everyday occurrence. Repetition invokes belief in the heart which is the first and main ingredient for inspiring action. After belief is inspired, faith comes by “hearing” and pursuing the possibility of the words you intend to become. Continue reading “THE BIRTH OF BELIEF”

THE ROAD TO DESTINY IS IN THE GIVING OF YOURSELF

In the words of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, faith is precisely the courage to take a risk in spite of the uncertainty, the doubts, the fears, and pressures. It’s your willingness to believe that “Though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death” you will not fear; you will not fail. As the good book says, “As the good book says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (1)Continue reading “THE ROAD TO DESTINY IS IN THE GIVING OF YOURSELF”

FAITH SIMPLISTICS – PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Faith is a fruitcake.

NO! I don’t mean the slur used to describe gay people.

I mean – fruitcake – as in acting with conviction in such a way that others see and think of you as being weird, foolish, unusual, – a fruitcake.

Faith is simple. It is simply the action behind your willingness to be “foolish” or “look foolish” for what you believe in and WHO you believe in, even if that means looking like a fruitcake in front of others. Continue reading “FAITH SIMPLISTICS – PRACTICAL APPLICATION”

HOW MY TUITION GOT PAID

In the beginning, it was foolishness…

But first, I need to tell you something. I don’t know what you believe or if you will believe me. I don’t know what your thoughts, training, doctrine, or belief is. I don’t know what you will think. Nevertheless, what I am about to share is a true story. Keep an open mind. Continue reading “HOW MY TUITION GOT PAID”

STORY OF THE WALKING MAN

It was too late. I had blundered terribly. A mistake that left me feeling regret and remorse. By now, the the voice of accusation had evidence against me. Every minute I was reminded of my shortcomings. Someone so precious to me.

How could I let my fears and anxiety get the better of me? How could I take such a great risk because of fears? Who was I and what kind of man had I become? Was I the same person and would I ever be perceived as the man I was before?

As I looked down at myself in shame, wondering what they future would be for me, two voices began a conversation in my head. One of those voices was mine. I listened to the other tell me a story and it is this story I summarize below Continue reading “STORY OF THE WALKING MAN”
