Man of Your Dreams

This is going to be an excellent year

What are you guys doing for Valentines day?

Well, I don’t know. I have no idea. I confess, I’m a romantic. But, somewhere between life and a hard place, I lost my mojo. I lost my M.O

I’m no Moto-Moto

I’m guessing you “love birds” are making last minute arrangements and wrapping up on your romance strategies with bags of roses, rings, necklaces, planned lush dinners, proposals…!

And then on Valentine’s day its…

Girls and free drinks, Singles and a few drinks, Guys and two things, Cuddles and Chick Flicks, Breakups and Karaokes, “will you marry me” and diamond rings, dates talking pet peeves…you know, the usual.

And then, there is “US.” Singles with little or no prospects who can’t stand the commercialization of love and loneliness.

Can I get a witness?

A…n…y…w…a…y.

I have been wondering why some of “us” who have “the goods” are single and boy do I have some musings to share with you.

Because – LOVE.

It is breath-taking how many of “us” are looking for “The One,” the man or woman of their dreams. Thanks to popular culture, folks have been on a mission to find “The One”, the perfect match, a soul befitting of the fifty shades of grey.

And we can all tip our hats to TV ads, TV shows, and the mass commercialization of beauty, sex, and body parts for altering our perceptions of what is acceptable and what is not. These alongside others have unconsciously set us on a path to find the “designer spouse.”

Let me illustrate with a story* what a designer date/spouse is with some sneaky wisdom which is the point of this post. Catch it if you can.

A woman once came to see The Rebbe. She said to him, “My daughter is struggling to find a match.” The Rebbe asked, “Does she know what she is looking for in a husband?” This woman proceeded to share every imaginable quality. To which the Rebbe replied, “It sounds to me like you are describing at least three different boys.”

Get it?

Using another example, Jim who enumerates countless qualities he is looking for in a woman, is not looking for one woman. In reality, what he was saying is that –

he wants a beautiful woman with Lucy’s brains, Britney’s cute blue eyes, Ana’s perfect sexy body, Tina’s top model fashion style, Taisha’s black is gold attitude, Tina’s cooking skills….

In short,

If you are looking for someone who carries all the best qualities of the Ghost of Relationships Past, then yeah….you are looking for a designer partner.

So what’s the problem with that?

None at all! Except, if  like Jim, you are thinking along those lines, looking for that type of person, with all those endless qualities or the best qualities of your many ex, you won’t find them.

Scratch that.

You will find them – in your dreams.

I know I did.

They are called “man of your dreams” for a reason – Mendel Kalmenson

If you insist on looking for them, you will be cheating.

That’s because you are already in a relationship with the man/woman of your dreams. If you want to date, break up with the man or woman of your dreams first.

So, loosen up a little. Give people a break and just let people be people. You are one of them. Everyone has a past. And heads up from Caralyn, author of Beautybeyondbones.com –

We are all recovering from something.

Yes, even you.

And by the way,

Even if someone has been a jerk, you have been too. Have mercy. You changed. What makes you think they can’t?

So – here’s a thought for you –

because – Season of Love.

When next you see that average Joe or pretty Sally at the store – go up to them. Compliment something about them and ask them out to coffee. Its simple.

Just say,  “Would you like to grab coffee sometime?”

They may turn out to be The Velvet heart shaped chocolate you have been looking for, wrapped in a freshly twisted candy wrapper called – current circumstances and temporal shortcomings which your righteous self might fail to perceive. Or they might bolt and never text you after the first date.

Who knows! You might ask in time to make that coffee date your valentines day special. Good luck. And…

Oh…don’t worry about me. I believe in miracles. I pray I am someone’s secret Valentine.  I may decide to be someone’s Prince Charming from the Hood. Ooouu…, there goes my mojo…it’s coming back to me…

Besides,

Life is not full of surprises: I am. Are you?

Okay, I’m finished with my musings.

But, I’m curious though_

– What are some of the qualities you are looking for in a potential date or spouse?

If you have ever had the “Designer-Date-man-of-your-dreams” syndrome, how do you overcome that in your mind and get back to dating real people?

Gifts that Speak

Hello fam –

How are you doing? How was your weekend? Gist me in the comment. I hope all went well. So…bible talks.

I came across an intriguing thought….again! Just like in You Have the Green Light, this thought is also inspired by Father Abraham.

Here’s a brief from Genesis 12.

Abraham left his family, hometown, and birthplace taking his nephew, Lot with him. But they later separated. Some politics went on in the Canaan territory ending up in Lot, his family, and his possession being taken by four Kings who attacked Sodom and Gomorrah.

Abraham was informed of his nephew’s situation. Feeling compassionate, Abram staged an overnight rescue mission. It was successful. He rescued Lot and everything that was taken. Abraham also took the spoils and prisoners of war along with him. The prisoners of war were from the city of Sodom. Genesis 14:1-16 chronicles the showdown if you are interested.

Then King/High Priest Melchizedek and the King of Sodom enter the scene. Their discussion is the center of my intrigue. Both Kings go out to commend Abram for his success.

Abram talks with Melchizedek. Its seems to be a friendly, fulfilled…conversation. We read,

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, – “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything – Gen 14:20

Following Abram’s discussion with King Melchizedek is an interjection from the King of Sodom. We read:

The King of Sodom said to Abram, “Keep the loot, but give me back all my people” – Gen 14:21

Abram answered,

I solemnly swear before the Lord, the Most High God, Maker of heaven and earth, that I will not keep anything of yours, not even a thread or a sandal strap. Then you can never say, ‘I am the one who made Abram rich.’ I will take nothing for myself. I will accept only what my men have used – Gen 14:22-24

Woo woo woo…!!! Wait a minute.

What happened to the sweet and hospitable Abram? Continue reading “Gifts that Speak”

Gifts that Keep On Giving

Phew…what a crazy week!

I just got back home from Christmas shopping and….boy…let…me…tell you! It was cray-cray at the mall, y’all. The mall was packed and the lines were just unbelievable. I am thankful I got a few things though.

(Between…I will make it rain socks on christmas day lol. But…)

For me, its not about the gifts. The best gift is the experience that created around the gift and the funkiness that stains the recipient of set gift. For our loved ones, our helpers, our encouragers, friends…taking time to craft a a whole scene around a simple gift is worth it.

So, I wish to share some of the gifts I received this year and then share some thoughts that these gifts remind me of. So, here we go.

Meet Louis

img_1313

Louis and I grew up and went to school in Africa where we became classmates. Then in high school, we were bench mates, but we were never close. Fast forward 8 years later when we reconnected in Minnesota.

img_0577

Over time, we have become close friends. Turns out we share similar values, passions, thoughts. And not long after our Minnesota meeting, Louis created a groundbreaking program –  Threelly – that has the potential to literally transform how we watch videos and interact with ideas. I have had the opportunity to partner and work with him on this. Needless to say we have seen God open up doors we could not have dreamed of.

The opportunity is all good. The adventures and miracles have been wonderful. But, I think I figured it out. It was Louis! Louis was the gift – God’s gift to me. A friend who empowers, encourages, cherishes, celebrates, and challenges me. And this gift keeps on giving. I see it now.

My grandma is over a century old now. She sent me off to the West with this blessing –

Love all people. Respect all people. And be each other’s keeper…

See folks!

When you pray for help, miracles, etc…, God will send people. People are the best miracles. But, if you don’t love them, they will leave you without releasing or before realizing they were to supposed to release what you prayed for.

That’s why grandma in hindsight emphasized  – Love all people my son. Respect all people. And I see Louis and so many others as a gift that results from me walking in granny’s counsel. Thank you Louis – for everything!

Now! Meet mi familia.

These are my people, my tribe, my friends, my pride, my joy….my jewel. You know you are moving to the next level of your destiny when God brings folks like these into your life (See the post – A New Measure).

Gauge every new level of success by the quality and quantity of your relationships each time you graduate a one destiny class and move on to the next.

Time would fail me to tell you how we met (just over 3 months ago) and the miracles that have happened since. We have traversed California, hiking, praying, dancing to salsa, eating, innovating, working, planning…and doing great things. We have shared stories, struggles, concerns…and become very close. They are a huge blessing to me. I hope I am to them.

See folks! I believe in miracles. Miracles happen. Ask Miracle Yello – BBB. But, what I have discovered is this –

Yes, Miracles happen. However, a lot more miracles tend to happen when you are in community.

Thank you God for these gifts that just cannot stop giving. Baruch Hashem!

Then –

There is YOU!

Yes – YOU – reading this post right now. You are THE MAIN ATTRACTION.

Its not by chance. Its not a coincidence that you either followed, read, or liked something I wrote. And its not a coincidence that it led me to you and what you wrote. You too have blessed and inspired me.

Thank you for reading, liking, and even commenting on my blog. Its a big deal to me. I am not sure if what I share with you is helpful. I am just glad to be able to do it and have the opportunity to connect with you creative geniuses who have been touched and inspired by the the Spirit of the Almighty.

I would like to have tea/coffee with you all whenever if that’s possible. Meeting and connecting with folks like you is my passion. I hope you would indulge me.

thanks
