THE ONLY WAY TO LIVE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Happy Holidays Happy People,

Christmas is upon us. And I am really excited – for no particular reason. Okay, I expect some good surprises. You know – gifts, family, friends, food, drinks…the usual. And maybe I’ll be lucky enough to kiss a girl under the mistletoe…(Hey, I believe in miracles okay).

Yes! I believe.

B…u…t, my point is – I am excited and fell awkward at the same time. No shame, no gain!

To begin the season (The entire December), here is a christmas carol – Silent Night – sung in the ? – Language. That’s right. There is a language called “?”.

Think I’m kidding? Well, check out this funky fellow sing Silent Night in “?.”  This is the BEST SILENT NIGHT I have listened to – EVER!!! Be sure to share it with family and friends. It makes the atmosphere a little – merrier – yes? Its my own way of sharing the merriness.

A….ny….way!

I have a brief thought to share today.

I heard someone say that a bottle of beer after a days work is a therapeutic. Well, instead of that, you did you one good.

I brought Elvis “back to life” in my little chateau and asked him to set a jazzy mood to relieve you of stress while you read my brief thought.

[Elvis – just for you! Listen and read on]

Folks!

Its the 21st century. The world is already a risky place. You could get pranked by someone who straps a fake bomb on a dog and makes the dog chase you. Your dog could be drugged and stolen in the middle of the night for no reason (Snoopy, my mom’s dog got nicked last week. No joke).

People are going cray-cray out there. (I think they need Jesus!)

Sans the shootings and bombings, there are many uncontrollable variables out there that can make our lives, our dreams, and the fulfillment of our destiny a living hell. But, locking our truest identities in “internal prisons” and marooning ourselves in our “safe spaces” won’t do us any good either.

It is the 21st century alright. The world is already a risky place.

The only way to learn, live, grow, and succeed nowadays is to learn the language of the age. And the first rule to living in a risky world is this – Take risks. This season, do something a tart different for a change. Practice the new language of the age.

For instance –

Dance freely. Salsa with the breeze. Give freely even if you don’t feel the utopia. Travel freely on the byways and highways.  Love relentlessly. Forgive quickly. Reconcile immediately. You’ve got imagination – employ it. Each moment is a treasure – enjoy it.

Voila!

Success – whatever that means to you – is the destination. Lifelong learning is the journey. Risk is the vehicle.

That’s why –

img_1309

I am going to kiss a sweet and fancy mademoiselle under the mistletoe (Oui). If you are a fine dame reading this, assume I will claim plausible deniability for writing this post if it turns out to be you (Hahaha).

Seriously though!

Take risks…! As my friend, Louis would say –

Life is too short to be boring.

And as you practice taking risks this season, think of this song by K.T Tunsall. It’ll help you have fun while as you play “real life do or dare.” It will make your bloopers and awkward moments seem a little cheek.

So let me remind you –

Life is not full of surprises – YOU ARE.

So, take risks!

I hope you enjoyed my attempt at making you laugh. If not, I’ll do better next time. But, I hope you enjoyed the songs and the brief thought. Thank you for reading my posts. Your likes, comments, and encouragement mean a lot to me. Thanks again. I love you guys.

Honor among gossips? WHAT!

No, not really.

Honor is something that should dwell among us. A step further: it should dwell on our lips in what we say or what we keep ourselves from saying. Let honor fare better with us that among thieves. This coming from a man who has made so many mistakes in this area. Oh well…God help us.

Let’s cross examine Joseph (the dreamer’s) story. First, we learn that Joseph has dreams of ruling. Jacob loves Joseph more than his other children which sparks jealousy and hate. Joseph’s brothers sell him to the Ishmaelites (ironically my name is Ishmael) and the Ishmaelite’s sell him in Egypt.

We know Joseph rises in rank and is in charge of Potiphar’s house. Next, he is framed by Potiphar’s wife, he is put in prison, and years later, after interpreting Pharaoh’s dream, he is made Viceroy of Egypt. It will be 7 years later when a famine (agricultural depression) hits and his brothers come to Egypt to buy food (1).

Woa wooa wooa…! What’s your point?

Okay! Why didn’t Joseph send an email back to Canaan to tell his father Jacob he was alive? I’m sure they had either Camel or Donkey telecommunication services. That’s how word traveled. Okay, maybe when Joseph was being transported by the Ishmaelites he was only a transaction with no rights. No big deal.

What about when Joseph was head of Potiphar’s house? He most definitely could have sent an e-mail (eagle/bird mail) to his dad. Why didn’t he? Even so, when he became Viceroy of Egypt, he could have gone back or sent a messenger: why didn’t he? Continue reading “Honor among gossips? WHAT!”

THANK YOU, YOUR HONOR

Thanksgiving is the reason for the season.

With that in mind, I want to thank The Two Most Important women in my life – Grandma Dinah and Mom. These women sacrificed almost everything to raise me. They would die for me. Thank you so much.

Here’s is an intimate look at my origin through Grandma’s eyes.

She is over 100 and still going.

Zongkra Bigmami (Dialect for Thank you Grandma)

First, I mention them to show you where I came from. Secondly, it is to add life to a  blessing/prophecy they gave me when I was young, a word which is unfolding. And lastly, their blessing connects me to the person this post is about.

What grandma and mom prayed and prophesied was –

“Son, you will have many mothers in your life.”

Its a parable which means – Continue reading “THANK YOU, YOUR HONOR”

RAISED BY TEXAS

Howdy folks!

Are y’all doing alright?

Well! I ain’t!

First, because of my initial reaction to the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

When I heard of the shooting, I didn’t feel any pain or connection. None! I was angry at myself for not feeling pain. I didn’t know why. Maybe I have been desensitized by TV. Even though I planned to lift Texas up in prayers before bed last night, I forgot.

I felt horrible for forgetting. I’m sorry!

But, in Zumba class this morning, a country song was playing and in that moment, I remembered the shooting. I had completely forgotten about it. Even then, I felt no emotion. No connection. I am embarrassed to even say that.

But when I slowed my dancing pace and looked around at everyone laughing, smiling, and two-stepping to the beat, I wondered –

Is anyone in here thinking about Texas? Do these people realize what happened in Texas in that little church? Why do we feel so detached from this?”

And, that’s when it hit me. Continue reading “RAISED BY TEXAS”

NAVIGATING PEOPLE POLITICS & SOCIAL STORMS (as your destiny unfolds)

“Its time for the boys to put away their toys and come on in”

Well, that got my attention. It does looks that way when you think about it.

A little back story.

This past weekend, I was at the SCMA conference where I got to listen and meet William Ury, Author of “Getting to Yes,” Adviser to the Columbian President, Internationally renowned Negotiator…!

Okay…you get it. He is a serious and famous fella.

I lied! He is serious with his work and yes, famous. But, overall, he is a nice, humble, and down to earth young man (at heart).

img_0475
William Ury is NOT the black guy

So, when this legend said “Its time for the boys to put away their toys and come on in,” a quote he heard from a female farmer from Kansas, it resonated with me. Because frankly, Presidents Trump and Kim seem to be playing “Trash talk” and “Pride Wars” with toys which so happen to be nukes.

If you didn’t already know, we (“the people”) are caught in the middle. Hello!

While I am hopeful that President Trump will exhaust all outlets of overt and covert diplomacy, the tension is unreasonably high. Unacceptable? Uhhh…well…I find it somewhat exciting. Continue reading “NAVIGATING PEOPLE POLITICS & SOCIAL STORMS (as your destiny unfolds)”

THE DAY I KNEW I HAD IT IN ME

Often, I am asked.

Ish, how did you know you had faith? What was the turning point? When did things shift in your mind before you were able to know you had faith? Before you were able to trust in abandon to God and his call?

I had been thinking about this question for a while.

And last week, I had an epiphany. It hit me.

Of course, I planned on sharing this with you as I noted in my previous post but experienced computer problems. So, I apologize.

But thanks to my crazy awesome friends, I have a new one. My friends got me a new one.

~Thanks guys~

So, what was that epiphany? How did I know I had faith? Continue reading “THE DAY I KNEW I HAD IT IN ME”

PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT

And…..I am almost died!

Seriously! I almost died!!!

First, literally! Then, out of embarrassment. And then, I wished I had really died. Strong thing to say, ain’t it? Well, here’s the story.

I HATE HEIGHTS! I DO!

But, I desperately wanted to join the swim team. I had done gymnastics. So, I decided to combine gymnastics and the spring board. Yep – diving!

What in the world was I thinking!?

I did all the swim team traditions, became part of the team, and boasted of my new un-tested skill. After all, coach was the one who invited me to combine my skills and break records. Yeah – right!

Then, one Sunday, for a team bonding experience, we went to a water park. Folks were sliding here and there having fun on the deep end. I stayed at the shallow end.

Why?

I just happened to remember – I AM SCARED OF HEIGHTS.

But then the cool kids on the swim team started showing off their skills on the diving board. And it was my turn. But, I stayed on the shallow side of the pool and acted like cool catz do.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t tough enough to escape the cheering and hollering of my nickname which had been so carefully crafted for a man supposedly as skilled as I was.

I couldn’t escape it anymore when they called out that name – ISH’ THE FISH.

That’s right – Ish’ the fish…Ish’ the fish…Ish’ the fish…

Soooo…., I walked up to the diving board, got on the board, and began to tremble. Against my better judgement, I wore my swim goggles. Then everyone became quiet. I couldn’t turn back from the edge of the board now.

It now became – NO RETREAT! NO SURRENDER!

So, I approached the board, jumped the wrong way, on one foot, and did a front flip which was the lousiest front flip in human history and landed head first in the water.

That wasn’t the embarrassing part. The next part is. Continue reading “PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT”

SOMEONE HAS TO!

In the Circle of Vision which I wrote before this, I established that where there is no platform for a type of dream or vision, one has to be built.

A personal dream or vision will be difficult to actualize or fully realize without any national visionary platform to support those dreams and visions. And where there isn’t one – if there is no national visionary platform for freedom, a specific dream, or genre of skill, then the dreams and visions of the people perish.

And –

If there is no platform, then one would need to be built.

Someone or some people will have to put their own dreams and visions aside to pursue the vision of building a platform for a people’s collective and individual visions to stand on.

Someone! Anyone – has to pay the price to build it.

Once that happens, then that volunteer can return to dreaming and journeying to establish personal visions in whatever field they chose or began.

In this post, I share one of my favorite examples. It involves soccer. More than that – women’s soccer. I was raised by women, cared for by women and supported by women. Plus, my brother played professional soccer in Europe.

So yes! I am passionate about soccer and Women’s Soccer for that matter.

It brings out the NINJA in me. Continue reading “SOMEONE HAS TO!”

CIRCLE OF VISION

Someone has to. Its the only way!

Do what, you ask.

Well, you’ll see!

After hearing about the shooting in Las Vegas, I felt hurt inside. I had to change the topic of my post. That’s the reason for the delay in sharing this weeks thought. Strangely, the shooting coincided with a movement in my homeland where we are fighting for our freedom and independence. Unlike the shooting in Las Vegas, the police and army are shooting at unarmed civilians.

How ironic! Continue reading “CIRCLE OF VISION”

WALKING THE WALK

I am passionate about developing God given ideas and destinies. But, I don’t just write and talk about it. I just don’t talk about family and relationships. I actually do it myself. I share things I learned from God adventures and lessons I am sipping-in, in real time. My close friend, Louis and me, have been building a social network curating platform that is getting some buzz now. It started as a game, a concept. But now, its for real. Continue reading “WALKING THE WALK”
