FOR GOD’S SAKE: HOW MANY KEYS TO SUCCESS ARE THEY? (Indulge me for a sec)

Let me be real for a minute.

Hands up if you have ever watched a video or read an an article that said something like:

  • The THREE things you need to succeed
  • FIVE keys to success
  • This ONE thing will make you rich in a year
  • SEVEN Life Changing Keys to Success
  • SIX Traits the Most Successful People Have in Common

….and so on.

Ok. Many hands…

Now! Hands up if you are sick and tired of hearing about “this” key to success, “that” key to success, and the many other different keys to success that never seem to end?

Hmm hmm…

These days, listening to “The Experts” these days end up confusing and frustrating some of us. They share keys like be consistent, determination, commitment, communicate well, excellence is required, vision is necessary…or need I go on?

While these are informational, across the board, they are highly personal to the experts. Folks need different keys for different areas of their life and business; for different industries, at different times. That’s why “keys to success” never seem to end.

After listening to several or trying to put them to work, you end up becoming frustrated. I think its because the many “keys to success” out there miss a pivotal focus.

And, this focus is the ONE & ONLY key to success there is, if one should exist Continue reading “FOR GOD’S SAKE: HOW MANY KEYS TO SUCCESS ARE THEY? (Indulge me for a sec)”

CIRCLE OF COMPETENCE: Stories & Application

Okay fam!

Honest!

Did you enjoy reading the Circle of Competence: Your Gifts & Talents? Was it helpful? Did it resonate with you? [Please let me know. Good or bad, it helps me grow].

(If you didn’t already, I encourage you to read it. This post is a continuation of the explanation of The Life-cycle of your Gifts and Talents)

In the first post about your Circle of Competence, I ended on the note that you can trace your steps from uncertainty, obsession, and desire back to your gift. Let me demonstrate that insight with a true story. Continue reading “CIRCLE OF COMPETENCE: Stories & Application”

CIRCLE OF COMPETENCE: YOUR GIFTS & TALENTS

Hello fam,

So, I am back from the “dead.” Praise God!

I had a terrible cough and nose bleeding for a week. And traveling didn’t make it easy. But my travel wasn’t all cough, blood, and tears. I met, connected with, and drove with a wonderful young man for 10 hours from Redding, California to Los Angeles.

Meet Landon from Idaho.

He is an organic farmer (7 years running), world traveler, and extreme hiker from a wonderful family. Plus, he is only 23. Our drive was fun.

Landon shared his passion for storytelling, script writing, film, and production. But, he had questions for me. And the questions was the sign to share this post. Initially, I felt that it was premature to share this, but Landon inspired its release.

Exception: I like writing short posts. But, because of the weight and life changing nature of this post, this will be a little emphatical for the sake of clarity. It will benefit you greatly. It might change your life. I will try to be brief. (That said…)

Here’s the deal –

We all have God-given gifts and talents. Let’s call these cluster of gifts and talents – your circle of competence. They are your strengths and can cause you to blossom.

“The gift makes way for the man” ~ unknown

But –

Having gifts and talents does not mean you will succeed. Finding them doesn’t mean you will automatically grow.

However –

Understanding the lifecycle of your gifts and talents (circle of competence); and understanding where you are in that lifecycle can help you to – become clear, find peace in your search for meaning, and enable you to grow intentionally and effectively on your journey toward destiny.

And the insight which I share with you below is what I shared with Landon. Continue reading “CIRCLE OF COMPETENCE: YOUR GIFTS & TALENTS”

NAVIGATING PEOPLE POLITICS & SOCIAL STORMS (as your destiny unfolds)

“Its time for the boys to put away their toys and come on in”

Well, that got my attention. It does looks that way when you think about it.

A little back story.

This past weekend, I was at the SCMA conference where I got to listen and meet William Ury, Author of “Getting to Yes,” Adviser to the Columbian President, Internationally renowned Negotiator…!

Okay…you get it. He is a serious and famous fella.

I lied! He is serious with his work and yes, famous. But, overall, he is a nice, humble, and down to earth young man (at heart).

William Ury is NOT the black guy

So, when this legend said “Its time for the boys to put away their toys and come on in,” a quote he heard from a female farmer from Kansas, it resonated with me. Because frankly, Presidents Trump and Kim seem to be playing “Trash talk” and “Pride Wars” with toys which so happen to be nukes.

If you didn’t already know, we (“the people”) are caught in the middle. Hello!

While I am hopeful that President Trump will exhaust all outlets of overt and covert diplomacy, the tension is unreasonably high. Unacceptable? Uhhh…well…I find it somewhat exciting. Continue reading “NAVIGATING PEOPLE POLITICS & SOCIAL STORMS (as your destiny unfolds)”

WALKING THE WALK

I am passionate about developing God given ideas and destinies. But, I don’t just write and talk about it. I just don’t talk about family and relationships. I actually do it myself. I share things I learned from God adventures and lessons I am sipping-in, in real time. My close friend, Louis and me, have been building a social network curating platform that is getting some buzz now. It started as a game, a concept. But now, its for real. Continue reading “WALKING THE WALK”

THE FUNNY THING ABOUT HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

I was embarrassed to share the featured picture for this post with you. It felt awkward.

I mean, what is a man in a suit doing carrying around and riding “half” a bicycle?

But, that’s the thing about humble beginnings-

They quite simply are – HUMBLE! Continue reading “THE FUNNY THING ABOUT HUMBLE BEGINNINGS”

WHY DO “THEY” PROSPER & I DON’T, EVEN THOUGH I SAID YES TO GOD? – PART 2

In this post, I wish to share the next set of responses to Kenny’s questions.  If you haven’t read Part 1 of this post, I encourage you to do so to get the full story. Simply click here. In brief, I was responding to a bunch of questions a young, passionate, and enthusiastic Christian man posed during a difficult time of his life. Kenny asked,

Why is that I am following God and doing everything right but I am not prospering? Instead, it seems those who aren’t following God are prospering. How come these problems never end? I am tired man. Why do things just seem hard even after I have given God a hundred percent? How come it seems like things are working for other people and seems to come easy to others while for me its a fight…? Its not fair…! This faith thing must be a lie.

Part 1 focused on person and his connections. This post will be centered on the theme of blessing. It is a real treat because I personally enjoy the answers here. Don’t forget to comment with your thoughts. It puts a smile on my face to read from you.

FYI – Kenny’s response is at the end! Continue reading “WHY DO “THEY” PROSPER & I DON’T, EVEN THOUGH I SAID YES TO GOD? – PART 2″
